FAQFAQ
Frequently asked questions are visible on the page and backed by FAQPage structured data.
Can an IP address reveal my exact home address or identity?
IP location is approximate. An IP address only indicates approximate network routing, usually pointing to your ISP datacenter, city, or region. It cannot reveal your real name, phone number, or exact street address without a court order served to your ISP.
How do I find out if my IP is static or dynamic?
Check your public IP on ip-address.site, then restart your router or toggle airplane mode on mobile. If your IP address changes upon reconnecting, it is dynamic. Over 95% of home broadband and mobile connections use dynamic IP addresses.
Why does my IP location show the wrong city or region?
IP geolocation is estimated using ISP routing hubs and registry databases. Using a VPN, proxy, mobile cellular data (CGNAT), or connecting to an ISP server in an adjacent town can cause your visible location to differ from your actual physical location.
What is the difference between Public IP and Private IP?
Your Public IP is the unique address assigned by your ISP that websites and online servers see. Your Private IP (such as 192.168.1.100 or 10.0.0.5) is assigned by your local router and is only used within your home Wi-Fi network.
What is a CIDR block and how does it work?
A CIDR block (like 192.168.1.0/24) represents a range of contiguous IP addresses. The number after the slash indicates how many bits are locked for the network. For example, a /24 block contains 256 IP addresses.
